You may have read about Asha Sharma recently and her renewed focus on the console side of the Xbox business – and in a new interview with Windows Central, the Xbox boss has hinted that we’ll hear about new console hardware very soon.
Indeed, when elaborating on her recent comments about ‘returning to Xbox’, Sharma talked about what’s coming in terms of next-gen hardware. “You will hear more about that soon”, Sharma says, with “some hardware announcements coming up” from Microsoft and Team Xbox.
“I am committed to ‘returning to Xbox,’ and that starts with console, that starts with hardware. You will hear more about that soon, we’ll have some announcements coming up. You will see us collectively investing here.”
It’s nice to see Sharma recommit to new Xbox hardware, then, especially because the now-departed Sarah Bond seemed to be the figurehead behind Microsoft’s next-gen console strategy. Of course, it takes a whole team of people to put together a new hardware launch, and it sounds like their work with AMD is ongoing as the next-gen Xbox is built.
Having said that, we are curious to see if the new Xbox chief will make any notable pivots on the new console before it arrives. It’s sounded like 2027 has been the plan for a while, but with Sharma’s new comments and the component crisis gathering pace, we do wonder if elements of the next-gen Xbox will be taken back to the drawing board here. Only time will tell, but it sounds like new hardware announcements are coming soon either way!
