Kate Griffin couldn’t wait to share her big news. On Valentine’s Day, after getting engaged on the beach, she and her fiancé, Paddy Turnbull, went to lunch with friends to celebrate — and her first call was to her sister, Amy.
The sisters, 22 months apart and raised in Melbourne, Australia, have been inseparable since childhood. Growing up, they often joked about who would get engaged first.
“I get there, I call Amy, she doesn’t answer,” Kate, who now lives in Western Australia, told TODAY. “That’s in the time she’s like walking to her dinner. Then she calls me back, but I’m on the phone to one of my other best friends.”
What Kate, 29, didn’t realize at the time was that Amy’s partner, Stephen Duvnjak, had also proposed earlier that same day — in Melbourne.
After her proposal, Amy, 31, called their parents to share the exciting news. When they asked if she’d spoken to Kate, they knew she had news of her own to share.
“I didn’t want to just like, show [my ring] straight away,” Kate told the outlet. “So that’s why I was just like, ‘Hey!’ And then, I could see Amy was out for dinner.”
When the sisters finally connected and showed each other their rings, Amy immediately held up her hand to reveal hers.
“And we both had the exact same reaction,” Kate said. “I was so shocked that it had happened on the same day.”
Finally able to share their engagement stories in full, the sisters savored the moment together.
“It’s just so beautiful that we’re able to have that for a keepsake,” Amy shared. “That’s a moment that obviously we’ll have forever, which is great.”

Kate happened to record the FaceTime call with her sister and later posted the special moment on TikTok. Since then, it has gone viral, reaching over 8.2 million views and thousands of comments.
“Double wedding?” one user commented.
“This is so iconic 😂,” another wrote.
Someone else chimed in, “This level of sisterly love has us 🥹🤎.”
As for now, Kate tells PEOPLE exclusively the sisters are savoring their engagement era and don’t see their upcoming weddings as a competition.
“It was the surprise of a lifetime, FaceTiming my sister to share my engagement news, to then be delighted with my sister showing her ring, being proposed to only hours apart!” she says.
“We’re both so excited to share this next chapter in our lives, however we might need to take it out of our partners’ hands when it comes to planning wedding dates 🤣,” she adds.
