A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of Maryland (including NW Montgomery County) and Northern Virginia from 3pm Sunday through 10am Monday. The warning includes Frederick County and Northwest Montgomery County in Maryland, along with Eastern and Western Loudoun counties in Virginia.
Heavy snow is expected in the warning area, with general accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Higher elevations above 1,000 feet could see significantly higher totals, ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.
A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect for the District of Columbia, central and southern Maryland (including C/SE Montgomery County) and much of northern Virginia from 5pm Sunday through 10am Monday. Snow accumulations in these areas are expected to range from 2 to 4 inches, with similarly gusty winds up to 35 mph.
Across both the warning and advisory areas, roads are expected to become slick and hazardous, especially bridges and overpasses. Travel conditions are likely to worsen Sunday evening and remain problematic into the Monday morning commute. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and prepare for winter driving conditions. If travel is necessary, officials recommend keeping emergency supplies such as food, water, and a flashlight in vehicles.
