A University of Alabama student has been reported missing while traveling abroad during spring break, according to his mother.

Therese Gracey said her son, James Paul Gracey, who also goes by “Jimmy,” is a junior at UA and had traveled to Barcelona, Spain, to visit friends studying abroad.

According to Therese Gracey, her son was last seen around 3:40 a.m. local time outside a nightclub called Shoko in Barcelona. She said he was wearing a white shirt and dark pants at the time and had on a chain with a gold rhinestone cross.

She described him as approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and 175 pounds.

Gracey is from Elmhurst, Illinois, and is a member of the Theta Chi fraternity at the University of Alabama.

Cavin McLay, the president of Theta Chi, said fraternity members have been working to raise awareness and seek help in locating Gracey. Cavin said they have been in contact with members of the U.S. Senate and a representative from the White House as part of those efforts.
