TORREY, Utah (KUTV) — Three women have been found dead in what investigators said was a homicide with multiple crime scenes in Wayne County. Residents have been asked to stay inside, lock their doors and keep their lights on while they search for a suspect.
Officials from the Utah Department of Public Safety said they were asked to help with the investigation by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency dispatchers got a call Wednesday afternoon about two women found dead on a hiking trail in the county.
In the course of the investigation, a third woman was found dead inside a home.
Details about the identities of the women were not released, but officials said one woman was in her 30s, another in her 60s, and one in her 80s.
Officials did not say what led them to find the third woman, or any relationship between all three.
No information was released about a possible suspect or suspects, but officials have asked for help from the public to locate a 2022 white Subaru Outback that was potentially involved in the deaths.
The Subaru has the Utah license plate number U560YF.
DPS officials have asked anyone who sees the vehicle or has any information about the incident to email [email protected], call (801) 965-3838 or dial 911.
They said people should not approach the vehicle.
It was not clear if investigators had identified a suspect.
Officials from the Wayne County School District announced schools have been cancelled for the rest of the week ,”out of an abundance of caution and concern for student and public safety.”
They also said that counselors will be in place to support students when they are back in session next week.
Several agencies were assisting with the investigation and search for the suspect.
