Square Enix announces it will integrate Google’s generative AI Gemini into popular online game Dragon Quest X

Square Enix has found a use for Google’s generative AI Gemini and will be putting it to use in the popular online game, Dragon Quest X. Gemini will be used in-game as a feature that allows players to have conversations and it will provide helpful assistance such as giving hints about the player’s next destination. The companion character which is named, Oshaberi Slimey, will use the chat function and it automatically generates voice responses and converses with the user. The reason why the team have included it is because the online game has been running for so long that new users may feel lost. Here’s what was said via machine translation.

“It becomes a personal companion so that new players don’t feel lost or alone about where to begin.” Square Enix is also collaborating with Google Cloud to further expand its use of AI” – Takashi Anzai

“AI will have an extremely significant impact on the player experience. I’m convinced it will dramatically transform all games within the next three to five years.” – Yuji Horii
