Sheriff’s deputies evict Rita Ortiz, Beverly Hills businesswoman accused of wrongfully placing multimillion-dollar liens on homes

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (KABC) — A Beverly Hills businesswoman, who a group of homeowners in the area claim recorded massive, multimillion-dollar liens against their homes, was evicted Wednesday.

Rita Ortiz was evicted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department from a home she also recorded liens against, located on Glendon Avenue in Los Angeles.

Ortiz was seen arguing that she was not given any notice about the eviction.

The Sheriff’s Department confirmed to 7 On Your Side that the eviction of Ortiz from that home was completed at 9:25 a.m.

Last week, ABC7’s Kevin Ozebek reported on how Ortiz is the “registered agent” of Ortiz Consulting LLC.

Records found at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s office show that since 2023, Ortiz has filed 35 mechanics liens. Those liens add up to more than $500 million worth of claims of unpaid work, including “cleaning” and other services.

In ABC7’s investigation, we shared the stories of four Benedict Canyon homeowners who have been hit with some of those liens. They all said they never contracted with Ortiz to do any work.

As for the home on Glendon Avenue that Ortiz was locked out of Wednesday, she filed seven mechanics liens against that property.

Ortiz did not immediately respond to 7 On Your Side’s request for comment.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Police Department said there is an active investigation into at least some of the liens.
