An enterprising netizen has just discovered a grift for the ages, provided that you are the not-so-proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone. And, to unlock that lucrative windfall, all you have to do is inform Samsung Support of how unhappy you are with your new phone.

Samsung continues to claim that its newly launched Galaxy S26 series is heading towards a near-certain box office success, so to say, with record pre-sales in various markets. However, then you have Samsung Support resorting to all sorts of tactics to discourage returns, casting a pall over those rosy pronouncements.
So, as per anecdotal evidence, the lucrative financial scheme goes something like this: you inform Samsung Support of just how unhappy you are with your decision to buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra. And, in due course, the South Korean behemoth’s support team will reportedly offer you a refund that might be as large as $250 to convince you not to return the smartphone.
Of course, there might be a method to this apparent madness. We reported recently that Samsung’s mobile division has declared an all-out emergency to combat its rapidly sinking margins amid the ongoing memory ‘chipflation’ – where Samsung’s unit that makes memory chips has refused to offer any discounts to the mobile unit – and the Iran war-driven logistics upheaval.
Apparently, MX executives below the rank of a VP have been barred from traveling in business class for a trip that carries a boarding time of less than 10 hours. The division is also resorting to voluntary retirements, among other measures, to cut overheads by as much as 30 percent.
As per market estimates from late January, the MX division’s operating margin in Q1 2026 is expected to decline to the low-three-percent range, and further decline to 2 percent in Q2. For context, the division had recorded an operating margin of 11 percent in Q1 2025. Worse still, as per internal sources, the MX division might struggle to post an operating margin of even 1 percent in the ongoing quarter!
It is hardly a surprise, therefore, that Samsung appears to be doing all it can to discourage returns at a time when every dollar of sales carries its weight in gold. For the buyers of Galaxy S26 Ultra, however, this represents a lucrative incentive, one that’ll likely last until Samsung Support smartens up to the grift. This might explain why Amazon continues to offer a $200 gift card with every Galaxy S26 Ultra purchase, since it does provide sufficient encouragement to buyers to push forward with an upgrade.
