Ray J’s manager is speaking out about the rapper performing in a concert with bleeding eyes and a monitor taped to his chest.
The “One Wish” artist, 45, was seen performing in poor condition on Feb. 14 in Shreveport, La., shortly after claiming that doctors said he only had months to live.
Speaking about the incident, his manager, Melinda Santiago, told PEOPLE, “We all know that Ray J has been under the weather, but all my artists that work with me gotta do their job whether they are bleeding or not.”

Ray J, born William Raymond Norwood Jr., issued a similar comment in an Instagram post on Feb. 17. He shared a photo of him and Santiago in front of an airplane at a runway with the caption, “WHATEVER MELINDA SAYS GOES,” along with a blood drop emoji.
The rapper, standing on the side of a black car, seemed in high spirits in the photo as he smiled and pointed at the camera. His manager, meanwhile, covered her face while sitting in the car.
A compilation video shared via X on Feb. 15 showed Ray J passing out roses to the audience during the special Valentine’s Day concert. He was wearing black sunglasses as he performed and blood visibly dripped down from one eye.
Another clip showed the singer removing his orange top, which revealed his chest monitor, before stepping into the crowd. He was also seen briefly adjusting his sunglasses and showing blood underneath both of his eyes.

A photo included in the video was of the shirtless singer and one of his fans that showed blood on his chest near his monitor.
Ray J shared a video on Facebook ahead of the concert, writing in the caption, “I’m putting my life on the line for this show!!”
The rapper spoke about his ongoing health issues in an Instagram video in January. “I want to thank everybody for praying for me. I was in a hospital,” he said at the time. “My heart’s only beating like 25 percent, but as long as I stay focused and stay on the right path, everything will be all right.”
The R&B singer made additional claims about his health in an Instagram Live the same month that was shared on X. “2027 is definitely a wrap for me,” he said, adding that doctors told him he will not live long and his heart had turned “black” due to abusing alcohol and drugs.
