Pokemon is being tied to the American political scene again following the latest social media post involving Pokemon Pokopia.
It’s quickly becoming apparent that the new Nintendo Switch 2 title is going to be one of the more popular games this year. You’ve got a multitude of factors here. Pokemon always has big reach, it’s a well-reviewed title, and it’s perfect for social media.
As a way of using Pokemon Pokopia’s popularity, a meme was posted today. That game’s key image and font were used in the “Make America Great Again” political slogan, which went live on social media.
The Pokemon Company doesn’t seem particularly pleased with the move. Sravanthi Dev, a company spokeswoman, said it did not give permission to use the Pokemon IP.
The full statement reads:
“We are aware of recent social content that includes imagery associated with our brand. We were not involved in its creation or distribution, and no permission was granted for the use of our intellectual property. Our mission is to bring the world together, and that mission is not affiliated with any political viewpoint or agenda.”
If this all sounds familiar, that’s because something similar happened involving Pokemon and DHS last year. You can read about that situation here.
