French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Mumbai on Monday evening on a three-day official visit to India, with engagements aimed at further strengthening the India-France strategic partnership.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Macron was warmly received at the airport by Governor Acharya Devvrat, with visuals also showing Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis present during the reception. Macron was accompanied by France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron, who is travelling with him on the visit.

“Towards a stronger India-France strategic partnership,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a post, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Macron will hold bilateral talks and jointly launch the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 during the visit.

Ahead of his departure for India, Macron said the trip would focus on taking bilateral ties forward across sectors.

“Three days from Mumbai to New Delhi to take our strategic partnership even further,” he wrote, adding that he was travelling with business leaders and representatives from economic, industrial, cultural and digital sectors.

“Together, we will go even further in our cooperation. See you tomorrow, my dear friend Narendra Modi,” he said in the message posted before his arrival.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet Macron in Mumbai on Tuesday, where the two leaders will review progress in the strategic partnership and discuss ways to further expand cooperation into new and emerging areas, according to an official statement.

The leaders are also expected to exchange views on regional and global issues. Around 3:15 pm, they will hold bilateral engagements at Lok Bhavan, followed by the launch of the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 at around 5:15 pm, where they will address business leaders, start-ups and researchers from both countries.

Macron is visiting India from February 17 to 19 at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi to participate in the AI Impact Summit and hold a bilateral summit. This marks his fourth visit to India and first visit to Mumbai.

He will travel onward to New Delhi after the Mumbai engagements.
