JD Vance Just Bombed In Front Of International Leaders After Telling A “Joke,” And I’m Genuinely Confused About What He Was Trying To Say

This morning, President Donald Trump held his first “Board of Peace” meeting in Washington, DC, where representatives from more than 40 countries gathered to discuss next steps on Gaza.

You know who else was in attendance? Vice President JD Vance.

While he was there, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to represent the US at the summit, he attempted to tell a joke that simply did not land.

After Trump complimented JD during his opening speech, the Vice President took the podium and said, “Thank you, Mr. President, very much for your leadership but also, for the kind words about me personally.”

“I knew exactly what I wanted to say, but after the president said that I was so smart and that I didn’t want to repeat our congresswoman, who froze for 20 seconds over in Munich, now, I’m tempted, sir, just to freeze for 20 seconds and just stare at the cameras, and maybe, they’ll say nice things about me like they did about congresswoman Cortez,” he continued.

If you missed the joke, you’re not alone, as no one in the audience laughed at what JD said about US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

What he’s apparently referring to is when Ocasio-Cortez was in Munich a few days ago, where she reportedly “froze” when asked about Taiwan and China and how her performance drew mixed responses. The question that was asked: “Would and should the US actually commit US troops to defend Taiwan if China were to move?”

Her answer: “Uh, Um…This is a long-standing policy of the United States. And I think what we are hoping for is that we want to make sure that we never get to that point.”

Once the clip of JD’s miscalculated joke went viral on Twitter (X), there were a lot of reactions to the overall awkwardness.

One person said, “Never knew it was possible to be that uncharismatic and embarrassing.”

Another said, “He really needs to just stop telling jokes, I don’t think a single joke he’s ever told has been funny or gotten a laugh. The second-hand embarrassment is wild lmao.”

“Jesus.”
