On the Tues., Feb. 10 episode of NXT, Blake Monroe and Jaida Parker wrestled to a double count out. WWE Performance Center officials and security were required to end their post-match brawl, some of whom were taken out by Parker trying to get to Monroe. That was set-up by several weeks of tension between the two high-profile members of the developmental roster, including a brawl outside the PC where Blake attacked while Jaida was greeting fans.
Normally, we’d expect the Monroe/Parker feud to continue. And it probably will — but not right away apparently.
We learned as much on NXT that premiered last night (Feb. 17). Blake barged into interim General Manager Robert Stone’s office, ready to complain about Jaida. Stone shut her down, saying Parker had been suspended for hitting a referee… but also mentioning that the former collegiate soccer player suffered a neck injury in her match with the former AEW star. That seems likely to have occurred on this spot we asked you about last week, and the GM sort of blamed The Glamour for Jaida’s injury during the segment.
But, likely inspired by the chat with Women’s Speed champion Fallon Henley that Monroe interrupted, Stone books Blakey in a match against Thea Hail… the wrestler who took the North American title from her via a botched pin.
It’s the latest unfortunate setback or odd booking decision these two wrestlers have experienced recently.
No reason was ever reported for why Jaida was off television for a few months at the end of last year. She continued wrestling on house shows, and hadn’t changed her character or presentation much when she reappeared to confront Monroe in January.
The former Mariah May was rumored to be main roster-bound not too long ago, but now seems set for a lengthy NXT run. With the unplanned title loss to Hail in between, she’s gone from a presumed Women’s champion to being part of a tournament for a zombie belt (the Speed titles were invented for a show on X/Twitter that no longer exists; WWE seems to be keeping them going in NXT in case they can license the property to some other outlet).
Monroe’s AEW background, and opening up about how being in WWE is a dream come true for her, has made her NXT run a recurring “battle” in the “war” many fans and pundits still fight on behalf of AEW or WWE. Her failure in the Speed Tournament — or success, really — will reopen the debate about whether Timeless Toni Storm was right in her “Whatever happened to Mariah May?” promo last year…
