Iran to target Dimona nuclear site if regime change sought

Iran will target the Israeli nuclear site of Dimona if Israel and the US seek regime change in the Islamic Republic, semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Wednesday, citing an Iranian military official.

In recent days, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump have said that the objective of the operation is to “create the conditions for the Iranian people to replace the regime.”

While some had said that Trump may claim the condition had been met and end the operation within days, senior Israeli officials told The Jerusalem Post that the US would stay in the fight until regime change actually happened.

“Trump intends to go all the way with this move,” one senior official told the Post. “He has already marked the target. He wants to replace the regime, and he has no intention of taking his foot off the gas.”

In an effort to destabilize the regime and weaken its ability to suppress anti-regime protest activity, Israel and the US have targeted not only facilities belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and its affiliated militia, Basij, but also police stations.

The investigative site Bellingcat published an analysis of PlanetScope satellite imagery showing that at least 15 police stations in Tehran were struck. According to their analysis, attacks of this type indicate that the strategic decision in Washington and Jerusalem is to target any element, even at the lowest level, that could be used to suppress protests or attempts to change the regime.
