Here’s how to build a crease-less foldable, according to Oppo

Oppo Find N6 might just be the first foldable to finally eliminate the display crease and, in its latest teasers, the company is detailing how it managed to build a crease-less foldable display.

Shared with GSMArena, Oppo’s teaser images focus in on the foldable hardware. Specifically, the “2nd-generation Titanium Flexion Hinge” and the layers of the display.

That updated hinge design is built with special “photopolymer resin droplets” in a liquid 3D printing process that fills in uneven areas of the hinge hardware. After those uneven areas are filled, UV light is used to solidify the droplets on a layer-by-layer basis.

Beyond the hinge, Oppo built the Find N6’s display hardware to have a wider waterdrop design when folded, taking stress off of the display panel. A titanium alloy is used for the hinge and wing plates – the latter being attached to the plates behind the display and attaching them to the hinge – while carbon fiber is used for the main support plate that holds the display in place.

A key change is further in “Auto-Smoothing Flex Glass,” which is 50% thicker than normal ultra-thin glass and avoids letting the display shift during daily folding and unfolding.

Oppo says that Find N6’s crease-less foldable display will remain flat with no visible crease for over 600,000 folds. Needless to say, it’s something we’re excited to check out in person, as the official launch is right around the corner.
