Meta Platforms has decided to slash almost 200 jobs in the Bay Area, marking the tech company’s most recent downsizing in the region, a state government filing shows.
According to a WARN notice filed with the state Employment Development Department, the Facebook creator will cut 124 jobs in Burlingame and 74 in Sunnyvale.

The Burlingame layoffs are slated to take place on May 22, the WARN letter revealed. The Sunnyvale layoffs are due to occur on May 29.
“Separations resulting from this action are expected to be permanent,” Chief People Office Janelle Gale wrote in the WARN notice.
None of the affected workers are represented by a labor union, Meta stated.
“Separated employees are not permitted to displace remaining employees based on seniority or any other factor,” Gale wrote in the WARN letter.
Meta said, “There are no bumping rights.”
From 2023 to 2025, the Bay Area lost 137,200 tech jobs. Tech companies announced multiple waves of worldwide layoffs during those years.
The Bay Area lost 49,700 tech jobs in 2023, followed by a loss of 60,200 in 2024 and a loss of 27,300 in 2025.
