Dungeons & Dragons Announces 2026 Roadmap

“Highguard” will permanently shut down on March 12.  Created by Wildlight Entertainment, the news comes less than two months after the game first debuted earlier this year on Jan. 26.

“Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into ‘Highguard’s’ world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful,” read the statement shared on “Highguard’s” X account. “Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12th. We hope you’ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.”

In Feb., Variety previously announced that Wildlight Entertainment had laid off multiple members of its staff less than a month after “Highguard’s” launch. The game studio was founded by CEO Dusty Welch and game director Chad Grenier, and it was reported that all staffers were exclusively working on “Highguard.”

Before the game shuts down, the team will release a final update including a new Warden, weapons, account level progression and skill trees.

NEWLY ANNOUNCED GAMES

Independent game studio Human Computer will release its debut title, “Ballgame,” on Steam for PC in 2026. The game is available to Wishlist on Steam now.

The game, an all-new, gold-inspired physics platformer, will allow players to step into the role of Dolf, “a newly sentient golf ball smashing, bouncing and grinding their way through high-stakes tournaments and physics-bending parlor games that are equal parts chaotic, merciless and wildly satisfying,” the official logline reads.

“When we started Human Computer, we were committed to making deeply satisfying games while applying our strengths in art direction, audio design and narrative,” said Eliot Garcia Weisberg, co-founder of Human Computer, in a statement. “With Ballgame, we let our creativity run wild, blending our love of arcade chaos with skill-based mechanics to create something that’s simple to pick up, tough to master and bonkers in the best way. It’s just the beginning of a much larger creative vision for the studio and we’re excited to see where this first shot leads us next.”

Human Computer is backed by Makers Fund, a global interactive entertainment venture capital firm.
