The most surprising mispronounced Pokemon names

Today, we’re going over a list that includes more commonly-mispronounced Pokemon names. Some of them are particularly surprising!

During the 2025 Pokemon World Championships event, the official Pokemon Twitter account put out some commonly-mispronounced Pokemon names. And it makes sense why people pronounce some of them wrong: the games don’t have any voice acting, so for the most part players don’t hear the names of creatures spoken out loud unless someone brings them up in conversation. Even then, it’s very easy to accidentally pronounce them wrong or put emphasis on the wrong syllable.

Important note before we begin: Serebii has a big list that includes the official pronunciations of every single Pokemon currently available, so we’d highly recommend checking that out. There are well over 1,000 Pokemon, and we’ve only listed a few commonly-mispronounced names. So if we don’t mention the Pokemon you’re thinking of, definitely give Serebii’s list a look before you go. Without further ado, then, here’s a list of Pokemon whose names are easy to mispronounce. (In other words, here’s a list of Pokemon whose names I was pronouncing wrong this whole time. Oops.)

  • Ampharos (AMF-fah-rahs and not AMF-fah-rose)
  • Numel (NUM-mell and not NOOM-mell)
  • Vibrava (VY-BRAH-va and not VIHB-BRAH-va)
  • Milotic (MY-low-tic and not MY-lah-tic)
  • Regice (REDGE-ice and not REDGE-ee-ice)
  • Wormadam (WUR-muh-dam and not wur-MADAM)
  • Gallade (guh-LADE and not gahl-ade)
  • Zebstrika (zehb-STRY-kuh and not ZEEB-stry-kuh)
  • Audino (AW-dih-noh and not aw-DEEN-oh)
  • Archen (AR-ken and not ar-CHEN)
  • Archeops (AR-kee-ops and not arch-ee-ops)
  • Minccino (min-CHEE-noh)
  • Cinccino (chin-CHEE-noh)
  • Reuniclus (ree-yoo-NEE-klus instead of ree-YUU-nee-klus)
  • Alomomola (uh-LOH-muh-MOH-luh)

  • Eelektross (ee-LEK-trahs and not eel-EEK-tross)
  • Vullaby (VUL-luh-bye and not VUL-luh-bee)
  • Vivillon (VIH-vee-yon and not vih-VIL-yin)
  • Yveltal (ee-VELL-tall)
  • Silvally (sill-VAL-lie and not sill-VAL-lee)
  • Naganadel (NAW-guh-NAW-duhl and not NAH-guh-NAY-duhl)
  • Zeraora (ZEH-rah-OH-rah)
  • Inteleon (in-TELL-ee-un and not in-TELL-ee-ahn)
  • Runerigus (ROON-uh-REE-gus and not ROON-rih-gus)
  • Morpeko (mohr-PEH-koh and not mohr-PEE-koh)
  • Zacian (ZAH-shee-uhn and not ZAH-see-uhn)
  • Regieleki (REDGE-ee-eh-leck-ee and not REDG-ee-leck-ee)

As you can see, we’ve also included some incorrect pronunciations on the list – after all, you might be pronouncing a Pokemon’s name correctly already and might want to know how some players are mispronouncing it. Some of these are particularly interesting – notably, Regice being pronounced as REDGE-ice means that Ash, his friends, and Regice itself all pronounce the Pokemon’s name incorrectly in the anime. There are also tons of Pokemon in the Unova region on this list – some Pokemon here, like Reuniclus, put emphasis on a different syllable than you might expect. All of the pronunciations here are actually official, by the way!

Have you been pronouncing any Pokemon names wrong? Feel free to let us know in the comments below. Again, we highly recommend checking out Serebii’s list of Pokemon pronunciations if you’re interested in reading some more.
