After the 2026 Actor Awards named Catherine O’Hara as best actress in a comedy series for her role in The Studio, show co-creator, Seth Rogen, took to the stage to accept on her behalf.
“I was asked to assume the honor of accepting this award on O’Hara’s behalf. I know she would have been honored to receive this award from her fellow performers who I know she respected so much. She was such a big fan of all of yours,” Rogen said to the crowd.
Rogen noted that he’s been reflecting on his time working with her, since she died several weeks ago. “Something that I’ve just been marveling at over the last few weeks was really her ability to be generous and kind and gracious while never ever minimizing her own talents and her own ability to contribute to the work that we were doing,” he said. “She knew she could destroy, and she wanted to destroy every day on set.”
He continued to share a story from their time together. In The Studio, O’Hara portrayed movie executive Patty Leigh. “I haven’t said this to the other actors, because I don’t want them to get ideas, but pretty much every evening before she had a shooting day on our show, she would email me and Evan [Goldberg] an email that always was pretty similar. It said, ‘Hello, I hope you’ll consider the following,’ and then there would be a completely rewritten version of the scene,” he said with a laugh. “100 percent of the time, it made not just her character better, but it made the scene better and the entire show better as a whole. And she really showed that you can be a genius and be kind, and one of those things does not have to come at the expense of the other in any way shape or form.”
Rogen concluded, “I’ll just leave you with this: If you have people in your lives that don’t know her work, if there are kids in your lives or just people who are out of touch or stupid or something. Just show them O’Hara dancing to Harry Belafonte in Beetlejuice, show them O’Hara hurting her knee in Best in Show and doing that amazing thing where she hobbles around, and tell the people, as they’re laughing, that that’s Catherine O’Hara. And we were lucky that we got to live in a world where she so generally shared her talents with us.”
While Rogen was delivering his speech, Jenna Ortega who starred alongside O’Hara in 2024’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, was seen wiping away tears.
O’Hara died on Jan. 30 at the age of 71 at her home in Los Angeles from pulmonary embolism. She also had rectal cancer.
Following the news of her death, The Studio cast and crew shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter, “We are at a loss for words at the passing of our friend Catherine O’Hara. She was a hero to all of us, and we pinched ourselves every day that we got to work with her on The Studio. She was somehow classy, warm and hilarious all at the same time. We’re unbelievably saddened she is gone and send our deepest sympathy to Bo and all her family.”
The Studio team also bowed out of attending an Apple TV press day panel on Feb. 3.
Later on Sunday night, the series also won for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series. The castmembers that received the award included Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, O’Hara, Rogen and Chase Sui Wonders.
Season two of The Studio is currently in production.
The 32nd annual Actor Awards was held at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Sunday night with Kristen Bell as the host. See the full list of 2026 Actor Awards winners here and all of the stars who walked the red carpet here.
