Quentin Griffiths, co-founder of online fashion retailer Asos, died after falling from a tall building in Thailand. He was 58.
The British-born man died Feb. 9 after the 17-story fall which occurred at a luxury condominium in Pattaya, according to Reuters.
Thai police told Reuters that initial investigations suggested suicide with no indications of foul play, and CCTV footage showed no one entering his apartment where he lived alone.
Police reported that Griffiths had been dealing with two ongoing court cases, including a legal dispute with his second wife over a business they ran together. Documents related to those lawsuits were found in his apartment, per the report.
Griffiths co-founded Asos in London in 2000 with Nick Robertson, Andrew Regan and Deborah Thorpe. It was initially named “As Seen on Screen” before switching to the acronym in 2002.
The company grew to become valued at over £6 billion with designs worn by celebrities including Rihanna, Michelle Obama and Bella Hadid.
Griffiths left Asos in 2005 but remained a large shareholder for nearly another decade and later co-founded several other ventures including online furniture store Achica, music-focused fashion retailer EBTM and ethical clothing website Adili.
“We’re saddened to hear about the passing of Quentin, one of our original co-founders,” an Asos spokesperson said in a statement to BBC News. “He played an important role in Asos’s earliest days and we’re forever grateful for his contribution. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
