Why Hilary Duff Is Convinced Her Husband Matthew Koma Will Divorce Her for an ‘Indie Songwriter’

It seems Hilary Duff has fears like the rest of us, including a big fear that her husband, Matthew Koma, will leave her for another musician.

When asked about her marriage by Rolling Stone, the Lizzie McGuire alum said, “I always think Matt’s going to leave me for some coolio indie songwriter that he works with.”

Almost immediately after saying this, Koma replied, “Which is so insane. But also very real. Those are real things to get hung up on emotionally.”

(Koma’s dating history doesn’t show any cheating scandals. His last high-profile relationship before Duff was with Carly Rae Jepsen, from 2012 to 2015. And apparently, her 2013 single “Tonight I’m Getting Over You” was inspired by their on-again, off-again relationship. But after the breakup, the two seemed cordial!)

For those who don’t know, Duff and Koma originally met in 2013 while working on Duff’s album Breathe In. Breathe Out. However, they didn’t get together until 2017, but they even split up a few months into their romance. They quickly got back together and got engaged in 2019. They later married on December 21, 2019.

They share three children together: two girls, Banks Violet, born in Oct 2018, Mae, born in March 2021, and Townes Meadow, born in May 2024. Duff also has a son named Luca, born March 2012, with ex Mike Comrie.

In a previous interview with The Talk, she talked about how “third time’s a charm” with their romance. She said, “It’s going so great. I mean, this is the third time that we’ve dated and I think that what [Selena Gomez] says has so much merit to it.”

“Timing is such a big deal … third time’s a charm,” she added. “I think that you have history and a past with someone and love, and just because it doesn’t work out the first time, the second time, as long as there’s not too much damage done, then, it can always work out again.”
