President Donald Trump issued a statement Tuesday on the death of civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson that included insults directed at former President Barack Obama and Democrats in general.
The statement, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account, started with the president saying he knew Jackson well. Trump described Jackson as “a good man, with lots of personality, grit, and ‘street smarts.’”

Trump also described various projects and reforms the two discussed over the years, while using the statement to attack Democrats.
“Despite the fact that I am falsely and consistently called a Racist by the Scoundrels and Lunatics on the Radical Left, Democrats ALL, it was always my pleasure to help Jesse along the way,” Trump wrote.
The president then turned his attention to Obama.
“(Jackson) had much to do with the Election, without acknowledgment or credit, of Barack Hussein Obama, a man who Jesse could not stand,” Trump wrote.
Trump concluded the message by offering his deepest sympathies and condolences.

The attack on Obama comes less than two weeks after Trump posted a video to his Truth Social account that contained a clip of Obama and his wife Michelle depicted as apes. Trump and his team blamed an intern for posting the video.
The video drew criticism from both Democrats and Republicans who demanded Trump take down the video, while the White House called the reaction to the video “fake outrage.”
Trump eventually removed the video from his page, but did not offer an apology.
