With apologies to Paul Thomas Anderson, it’s been one battle after another on the awards circuit for months now — but we’ve made it to the finish line. On March 15, Academy voters will finally settle whether One Battle or Sinners goes into the history books as the Best Picture of 2025 at the 98th Academy Awards. And at least one Gold Derby editor is predicting that the vibes — though maybe not the odds — are favoring Ryan Coogler‘s vampire yarn heading into the big night.
Best Picture may be one of the tightest races at this year’s ceremony, but other categories are wide open when it comes to the winners. Your Gold Derby team has their final picks ready in all 26 races, from the short films to the four acting victors. The only thing we know for sure? Jessie Buckley is definitely taking home that Best Actress statuette.
Other safe calls include KPop Demon Hunters slaying its rivals in the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song categories, as well as Avatar: Fire and Ash taking the Best Visual Effects Oscar back to Pandora. But the Best Supporting Actor race is very much still up in the air, as is the Best Documentary group, where there hasn’t been a consistent winner across the precursor ceremonies.
